UNIVERSITY OF SHEFFIELD GOING UP THE LADDER OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCY
For one more consecutive year, the University of Sheffield is listed amongst the best universities of the world according to prestigious global rankings published for 2007/8.
Times Higher Education Supplement
In the leading world league raking of the world’s best 200 universities published by the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) in November 2007 the University of Sheffield is rated 12th in the UK, 22nd in Europe and 68th in the world. It is worth noting that according to the results presented for 2007, the University of Sheffield appears in the 68th place amongst the world’s top universities whilst in last year’s rankings it held the 102nd place in the same rankings’ table.

Shanghai’s Jiao Tong University
Moreover, another official and globally respected rankings’ source, China’s Shanghai Jiao Tong University, also placed the University of Sheffield in the premium academic league. In the annual academic listings of the top 500 universities worldwide, published in August 2007 by the Chinese university, the University of Sheffield was ranked 8th in the UK, 21st in Europe and 72nd in the world.
Researchers at Shanghai Jiao Tong University looked at over two thousand universities to come up with their top 500. They evaluated the universities using several research performance indicators, including the number of highly cited researchers, academic performance, articles in the periodicals Science and Nature, and the number of Nobel prizewinners.
